Based on the opinions of nutrition experts both domestically and internationally, there are nine major shortcomings in China's dietary habits that need to be brought to everyone's attention:
1. Most Chinese people eat too much salt. Statistics show that the average daily salt intake per person nationwide is over 10 grams, with the highest in Northeast China, reaching 18 grams. The World Health Organization recommends controlling salt intake to less than 5 grams per day. Excessive salt intake significantly increases the incidence of hypertension, stomach cancer, and other diseases.
2. Chinese people consume too much MSG, increasing the body's sodium intake, and sodium is harmful to the body. Therefore, chicken essence, mushroom essence, etc., should be used instead of MSG in soups and dishes.
3. The Chinese dining style is mostly communal dining, and people like to share dishes, which increases the probability of disease transmission.
4. Chinese people like to eat animal offal. Animal offal contains a lot of cholesterol, which is an important factor in inducing and aggravating atherosclerosis.
5. Chinese cooking mostly uses frying, stir-frying, and deep-frying methods, and people like to eat stir-fried dishes and fried foods, which increases the chance of getting cancer.
6. Chinese people like to eat red meat (pork, beef, and mutton) with higher fat content, and the proportion of white meat (fish and chicken, etc.) is relatively small. In recent years, the proportion of white meat consumed by Chinese people has been increasing year by year, which is a good phenomenon.
7. In many parts of China, people like to eat salted fish, salted meat, and pickled vegetables. This not only increases salt intake but also increases the chance of cancer due to the high nitrite content in pickled foods.
8. Chinese people like to eat various braised meats. However, the cinnamon, star anise, fennel, cloves, and peppercorns added during the braising process are not only warm and dry in nature, easily causing excessive heat in the body, but also contain a certain amount of safrole, which has certain mutagenic and toxic effects and is easily carcinogenic. Therefore, people with colds, fever, inflammatory diseases, and chronic liver diseases should eat less braised meat.
9. Chinese people like to hold large banquets. People are accustomed to drinking large amounts of white wine at banquets, or overeating and drinking, or smoking and drinking at the same time. Some areas also have bad customs of serving dishes. These habits not only cause waste but are also extremely detrimental to health, easily inducing various diseases.
