Modern scientific research has found that the fineness and smoothness of the skin are closely related to the content of hyaluronidase in the dermis, which in turn is closely related to the amount of estrogen secreted. Recently, scientists have discovered that when the ovaries secrete more estrogen, the estrogen combines with certain specific receptors in the dermis, thereby promoting the formation of hyaluronidase. This enzyme can promote the skin's absorption of water, trace elements, and vitamins, thus making the skin's water, trace element, and vitamin content sufficient, making the skin delicate and smooth. So how can we make our skin healthy through diet?
(1) Adequate water intake: The human body tissue fluid contains up to 72% water, and the water content in the adult human body is 58%-67%. When the body's water content decreases, the skin becomes dry, sebaceous gland secretion decreases, causing the skin to lose elasticity, and even wrinkles appear. To ensure water intake, girls should drink about 1200 ml of water per day.
(2) Regularly eat foods rich in vitamins: Vitamins play an important role in preventing skin aging and keeping the skin delicate and moist. Japanese scholars have found that vitamin E plays an important role in skin anti-aging. This is because vitamin E can destroy the chemical activity of free radicals, thereby inhibiting aging. Vitamin E also has the effect of preventing lipofuscin deposition in the skin. Scientists have found that the generation of lipofuscin is related to lipid peroxides. Foods rich in vitamin E include cabbage, sunflower oil, and rapeseed oil. Vitamins A and B2 are also indispensable substances for smooth and delicate skin. When the body lacks vitamin A, the skin becomes dry, rough, and scaly; if vitamin B2 is lacking, angular cheilitis, cracked lips, desquamation, and pigmentation will occur. Foods rich in vitamin A include animal liver, fish liver oil, milk, cream, poultry eggs, and orange-red vegetables and fruits. Foods rich in vitamin B2 include liver, kidney, heart, eggs, and milk.
(3) Eat more foods containing iron: For radiant and rosy skin, sufficient blood supply is needed. Iron is one of the main components of hemoglobin in the blood, so you should eat more foods rich in iron, such as animal liver, egg yolks, kelp, and seaweed.
(4) Increase the intake of foods rich in collagen and elastin: Collagen can make cells plump, making the skin full and reducing wrinkles; elastin can increase the elasticity of the skin, making the skin smooth and elastic. Foods rich in collagen and elastin include pig's trotters, animal tendons, and pigskin.
(5) Pay attention to the intake of alkaline foods: Fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and grains consumed in daily life are all physiologically acidic. Excessive acidic foods can increase the lactic acid and uric acid content in body fluids and blood. When organic acids cannot be excreted from the body in time, they will erode sensitive epidermal cells, causing the skin to lose its delicacy and elasticity. In order to neutralize the acidic components in the body, you should eat some physiologically alkaline foods, such as apples, pears, citrus fruits, and vegetables.
Vitamins that help skin health
Whitening, anti-aging, and anti-wrinkle are the biggest secrets of women's skin. There are various anti-aging and anti-wrinkle cosmetics on the market (such as fruit acid, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, fish protein, grape seed, etc.), but vitamins still play a very important role in modern people's skin health care. Among them, vitamins A, C, and E are the most effective for beautiful skin.
1. Vitamin A: Vitamin A is abundant in yellow-green vegetables and fruits, viscera, liver, egg yolks, margarine, milk, and fish liver oil. However, vitamin A must first be converted in the human body before it can exert its effect. For the skin, it can regulate the metabolism of the epidermis and stratum corneum, protect the epidermis and mucous membranes, and make it difficult for bacteria to invade. Therefore, vitamin A is widely used clinically in anti-aging, wrinkle removal, lightening skin spots, making the skin smooth and tender, and preventing skin cancer. If vitamin A is taken in excessive amounts, it can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, and bone abnormalities; pregnant women should pay special attention to its safe dosage to avoid birth defects.
2. Vitamin E: Vitamin E is abundant in grains, wheat germ oil, cottonseed oil, green leafy vegetables, egg yolks, nuts, meat, and dairy products. The function of vitamin E is to reduce the oxidation of vitamin A and polyunsaturated fatty acids, control cell oxidation, promote wound healing, inhibit skin sunburn reactions, and the occurrence of cancer. Generally speaking, if vitamin E and vitamin C are used together, they can complement each other and enhance their effects. Vitamin E is fat-soluble, and if it is taken in excess of the safe dosage for a long time, it can cause side effects such as phlebitis, pulmonary embolism, and hyperlipidemia, so it should be taken cautiously.
3. Vitamin C: The whitening effect of vitamin C is mainly based on its anti-inflammatory effect, which can prevent sunburn, and vitamin C can also promote wound healing. If it is deficient, it will affect the function of connective tissue, making it susceptible to free radical attack and causing denaturation. However, vitamin C is an important antioxidant that repairs this damage. Therefore, it has recently been widely used in anti-aging and repairing sun damage.
The three vitamins have similar functions and complement each other, as they are all good antioxidants that can eliminate harmful free radicals formed after prolonged sun exposure.
Beauty Foods: How Much Do You Know?
Beauty is not only a spiritual need, but also plays an important role in human health. To obtain a beautiful complexion, in addition to daily skin care, regulating endocrine function through appropriate food and medicine is also very effective. With the increasing demand for women's beauty, some long-dormant beauty foods and medicines in China have been continuously unearthed. Some of the beauty food therapies that have been recognized by modern medicine are introduced below for beauty enthusiasts to use.
Orange-yellow honey: Honey is known as "the most perfect nutritional food in nature" and has the function of prolonging life. Because honey is nutritionally comprehensive and rich, regular consumption can make the skin white, tender, and smooth, and prevent skin cracking. Regular consumption of honey can also increase the hemoglobin content in the blood, making the complexion rosy and radiant. Now, the raw material of honey—pollen—is also attracting widespread attention worldwide for its beauty effects. Replacing beverages with honey water will bring endless charm to your skin.
Ancient people said of red goji berries: "Goji berries can preserve youth and beauty." The great Ming Dynasty physician Li Shizhen also introduced in his Compendium of Materia Medica that goji berries soaked in alcohol, consumed long-term, can prevent aging and maintain a youthful appearance. Modern scientific research has found that goji berries contain a large amount of carotene, vitamins A, B1, B2, C, niacin, phosphorus, iron, and other nutrients that nourish, strengthen, and beautify the skin. As a simple beauty food remedy, goji berries can be soaked in alcohol, or made into goji-longan paste with longan meat, rock sugar, honey, etc., or combined with other foods to make medicinal dishes, such as goji berries and yam stewed with pig brain, goji berries and red dates stewed with eggs, goji berries stewed chicken, goji berries stewed lamb brain, etc.
The tyrosinase in the human body produces melanin that causes freckles, dark spots, and age spots. The higher its activity, the earlier and more numerous age spots appear. Modern scientific experiments have proven that the water solution of Angelica sinensis has a strong ability to inhibit tyrosinase activity, thus having anti-aging and beauty effects. Angelica sinensis can be boiled in water, and the juice can be used to brew wine with rice or flour. Angelica sinensis can be stewed with mutton, astragalus, and codonopsis to make Angelica mutton soup. Angelica sinensis can also be used to make medicinal dishes with other foods. For ordinary people, you can take about 5 grams of Angelica sinensis daily, soak it in boiling water, and add a little honey as a tea substitute, which is very convenient.
Black sesame seeds contain a large amount of unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E, which are very beneficial for delaying skin aging. Black sesame seeds can be made into "Wu Ma San" (a traditional Chinese medicine). The method is: mix black sesame seeds with warm water, steam them in a pot, and remove from heat when steam rises, then sun-dry them. Repeat the steaming and drying process several times, then grind them into a fine powder. Take 10 grams on an empty stomach with warm water before meals.
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that radish can "benefit the five internal organs, lighten the body, benefit Qi, and make the skin fair and clean." Modern research shows that the reason why radish has this function is due to its rich vitamin C content, so regular consumption can inhibit melanin formation and reduce skin pigment deposition. Some scholars believe that poor bowel function allows E. coli in the intestines to decompose proteins, producing toxic ammonia-like substances. Absorption into the bloodstream has adverse effects on the body and accelerates aging. The laxative effect of radish can inhibit this adverse factor, thus playing a role in nourishing the complexion and blood.
The red cherry contains the highest amount of iron among various fruits, and regular consumption can increase hemoglobin in the blood, thus achieving the effect of replenishing blood and complexion.
The Compendium of Materia Medica states that peas have the effect of "removing dark spots (facial dark spots, pigmentation spots) and making the face radiant." Modern research has found that peas contain abundant provitamin A, which can be converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A has the effect of moisturizing the skin, and it is obtained from ordinary food without side effects.
