It is currently the peak season for Japanese encephalitis, with an increase in cases nationwide. Citizens should take precautions against the Japanese encephalitis virus. Japanese encephalitis is a zoonotic, naturally occurring infectious disease transmitted by mosquitoes, with pigs being the primary reservoir host.
The disease is prevalent in summer and autumn, with an incubation period of 4 to 21 days. Children of the appropriate age should actively receive Japanese encephalitis vaccination according to the immunization schedule. Except for July, August, and September, Japanese encephalitis vaccines are available year-round in Beijing. If initial symptoms of Japanese encephalitis such as high fever, headache, vomiting, fatigue, and drowsiness are observed, seek immediate medical attention.
