Xinhua News Agency, Chongqing, December 15 (Reporter Li Yongwen) After entering winter, electric blankets have become an indispensable "companion" for many people. Professor Da Siping, director of the outpatient department of the Third Military Medical University Xinquiao Hospital, recently reminded that excessive use will cause "electric blanket disease".
According to Da Siping, in the cold winter, electric blankets, which are convenient and easy to control, have been favored by the general public. Using electric blankets not only has a warming effect, but also has a certain therapeutic effect on diseases such as rheumatism and lumbago. However, electric blankets are not suitable for everyone. Excessive use may cause symptoms such as sore throat, dry mouth, dry tongue, constipation, and less and yellow urine.
In particular, the skin of the elderly is already relatively dry in winter. If electric blankets are used for a long time, it will cause excessive water loss from the skin, aggravating dryness, causing skin allergies, itching, or the appearance of papules of varying sizes, which will bleed after scratching. Most elderly people who use electric blankets for a long time have this symptom, often starting with itching on the back, and also experiencing dry throat and difficulty falling asleep.
Professor Da Siping reminds us to learn how to use electric blankets properly: First, the power-on time should not be too long. Generally, it is powered on and heated before going to bed, and the power is turned off when going to bed. It must not be used all night; second, people with allergic reactions should not use electric blankets; third, those who frequently use electric blankets should drink more water; fourth, electric blankets should not be in direct contact with the human body, and a blanket or sheet should be placed on top.
