Band-aids are commonly used in daily life, but improper use can cause skin infections. Experts suggest that band-aids should not be left on for more than two days.
According to Liu Jianguo, an expert from Taiyuan Municipal Drug Supervision Bureau, band-aids have the function of temporarily stopping bleeding and protecting wounds. Due to structural limitations, band-aids are generally only suitable for emergency treatment of small wounds. In addition, the outer adhesive tape is airtight, which can cause the wound and surrounding skin to turn white and soft, leading to infection. Therefore, the usage time should not be too long.
Experts suggest that for minor skin abrasions, applying iodine or alcohol can prevent infection. If the skin damage is relatively deep and there are no conditions for treatment on the spot, the wound can be rinsed with clean water first, then simply bandaged with a band-aid, and then go to the hospital for regular disinfection as soon as possible to avoid secondary infection.
