Red Foods Protect the Heart
Red foods include carrots, red peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, hawthorn, red dates, strawberries, sweet potatoes, red apples, etc. According to the theory of the five elements in Traditional Chinese Medicine, red represents fire and yang, so red foods, after entering the body, can nourish the heart and blood, and mostly have the effects of invigorating qi and replenishing blood, and promoting the generation of blood and lymph.
Studies have shown that red foods generally have strong antioxidant properties. They are rich in lycopene and tannic acid, which can protect cells and have anti-inflammatory effects. Some people are easily susceptible to colds. Eating more red foods can help, such as the carotene in carrots, which can be converted into vitamin A in the body, protecting the human epithelial tissue and enhancing the body's ability to resist colds. In addition, red foods can also provide the body with abundant high-quality protein and many inorganic salts, vitamins, and trace elements, which can greatly enhance the heart and blood functions. Therefore, frequently consuming some red fruits and vegetables is beneficial for enhancing cardiovascular vitality and improving lymphatic immune function.
Yellow Foods Protect the Spleen
In the five elements, yellow represents earth. Therefore, after ingesting yellow foods, their nutrients are mainly concentrated in the area of the middle earth (spleen and stomach) in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Foods based on yellow, such as pumpkin, corn, peanuts, soybeans, potatoes, and apricots, can provide high-quality protein, fat, vitamins, and trace elements, and frequent consumption is very beneficial to the spleen and stomach. In addition, yellow foods are rich in vitamin A and vitamin D. Vitamin A protects the intestinal and respiratory tract mucosa and can reduce the occurrence of gastritis and gastric ulcers; vitamin D promotes the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, thereby strengthening bones and muscles. Young people may consider consuming more.
Green Foods Protect the Liver
In recent years, green foods have always played the role of "cleaners" and "guardians" of life and health, and therefore are favored by people. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that green (including blue and green) enters the liver, and eating more green foods has the function of soothing and strengthening the liver, and is a good "detoxifier" for the human body. In addition, in the five elements, green overcomes yellow (wood overcomes earth, liver controls spleen), so green foods can also regulate the spleen and stomach's digestive and absorption functions. Green vegetables contain abundant folic acid, which has been proven to be one of the most important vitamins in the human metabolic process. It can effectively eliminate excess homocysteine in the blood, thereby protecting the health of the heart. Green foods are also the best source of calcium. For those who are in the growth and development stage or suffer from osteoporosis, eating green vegetables is undoubtedly a good way to supplement calcium.
White Foods Protect the Lungs
White belongs to metal in the five elements and enters the lungs, focusing on invigorating and regulating qi. According to scientific analysis, most white foods, such as milk, rice, flour, and chicken and fish, are rich in protein. Frequent consumption can eliminate fatigue and promote disease recovery. In addition, white foods are relatively safe nutritious foods. Because their fat content is much lower than that of red meat, it is very consistent with a scientific diet. It is better for patients with hypertension, heart disease, hyperlipidemia, and fatty liver to eat white foods.
Black Foods Protect the Kidneys
Black foods refer to various natural plants or animals that are black, purple, or dark brown. In the five elements, black represents water and enters the kidneys. Therefore, frequently eating black foods is more beneficial for supplementing the kidneys. Studies have found that black rice, black sesame, black beans, black fungus, kelp, and seaweed have high nutritional and medicinal value. They can significantly reduce the incidence of arteriosclerosis, coronary heart disease, and stroke, and are also effective for influenza, bronchitis, cough, chronic hepatitis, kidney disease, anemia, hair loss, and premature graying.
